Orbital Welding is an automatically controlled welding process where the “arc” rotates 360° around a circular work-piece such as pipe or tube. It was first developed in 1960s for small tube diameter welding in an aerospace project to overcome hydraulic and fuel lines joints leaks due to manual TIG (gas tungsten arc welding GTAW) welding.
Besides aerospace, orbital welding is a method of choice for small diameter tubing system especially when working with VCR or Microfit fittings in semiconductor UHP gas system. Today, orbital welding is always being specified for welding large diameter process piping in semiconductor, beverage, food and pharmaceutical industries.
